Traditional large wooden ship under restoration at Museumswerft Flensburg

Traditional Ship Restoration

A fantastic opportunity to gain practical experience in the construction and restoration of traditional large wooden ships — aimed at those working toward becoming true professionals in traditional historic vessels, from structural renovation to re-planking the hull or deck, caulking, superstructures, masts and rigging.

Some prior experience is recommended — we suggest completing Introduction to Boat Building first. You will cover tool sharpening, lining-off for planking, basic boat-building joints, spiling, plank scarfing, steaming and copper riveting, knees, floors and bulkheads, caulking, painting and finishing, alongside relevant theory on hull construction types and lofting.
